When Tervikum, Viljandi’s new healthcare campus, opened in June 2025, it marked a major milestone for Estonian healthcare. Just one year later, the €104 million development was recognised among the world’s leading new healthcare buildings, receiving honours at both the European Healthcare Design Awards 2026 and the International Union of Architects Awards 2026. The project was designed by DAGOpen OÜ, PLANHO Consultores S.L.P and BAKPAK Architects S.L.P.
Glassense contributed to Tervikum through close cooperation with Malmerk Fassaadid and Fenster Alumiinium. Between September and December 2023, approximately 3,600 m² of glazing solutions were supplied for façades, roof structures and windows across the healthcare campus.
XTREME 70/33 solar control glass was selected to balance solar protection with high levels of natural daylight. Additional solutions included laminated P4A safety and security glass, silk-screen printed glass and large EI60 fire-resistant glass panels. The EI60 glass provides up to 60 minutes of fire protection when required.
One of the key challenges was delivering the full glazing volume within a tight timeframe before year-end. For the fire-resistant glazing solutions, Glassense worked in close cooperation with Saint-Gobain Vetrotech.
Within its first year, Tervikum received seven awards and recognitions, reflecting the project’s architectural quality and impact on healthcare infrastructure. Beyond international recognition, the development was also acknowledged locally through the Viljandi City Annual Award and the “Beautiful Viljandi 2026” recognition. The project demonstrates how architecture, engineering and high-performance glass solutions can create modern healthcare environments that support safety, wellbeing and sustainability.
